Event: Evidence of Those UnSeen
4th October 2023 to 20th December 2024 (one month extension)
SPACE Studios, London
In November 2019, SPACE opened new artist studios, a gallery and event space in the London Borough of Redbridge. Situated in the rear of Redbridge Town Hall, Ilford, an impressive Grade II listed landmark with a spectacular Art Deco interior, the building provides artists and creatives with 35 affordable workspaces.
The “Evidence of Those Not Seen” exhibition showcases several artworks by Jacqui Cooke, aimed at recognising the commitment and sacrifice of Veterans of African Descent and First Nation Individuals. Some were recognised as the most decorated individuals for their service and others, committed to serving while facing adversity by both the countries they lived and the country they served.
The call to war, had many individuals from countries within the commonwealth volunteer to serve Britain during both WW1 and WW2.
Following the war, many chose to return and help rebuild – committed to serving as they called Britain, “The Mother Land”.
